Mahweli Maha Seya
The second-largest stupa in Sri Lanka, Mahweli Maha Seya, is a contemporary wonder that melds with the stunning landscape and rich history of the country. The magnificent 289-foot-tall building, which represents Sri Lanka’s dedication to Buddhism and amazing architectural marvels, will be visible as you ascend the mountain route. The stupa is surrounded by a calm environment, and prayer flags provide some color. Mahweli Maha Seya is a memorial to the people who gave their lives in the Mahaweli Development Project, a massive irrigation project that revolutionized the central region of Sri Lanka. It reminds us of the fine line that separates development from preservation. A greater understanding of the lush land supported by the Mahaweli project is possible thanks to the expansive views of the Kotmale Valley from the surrounding platform.
