Lake Gregory
Lake Gregory is a charming reservoir in Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka, that was constructed in 1873 by British Governor Sir William Gregory. Originally built to supply the town with water, it has evolved into the center of Nuwara Eliya’s leisure scene, providing a scenic setting and a variety of recreational opportunities for guests of all ages. The picture-perfect scene is created by the calm waterways reflecting the lush hills and blue skies. Visitors looking for a more active experience can rent a paddleboat in the shape of a swan, go windsurfing or jet skiing, or take a leisurely trip in a horse-drawn carriage. In addition to water-based pursuits, families with little children can enjoy tiny pony rides and local snacks and refreshments from food stalls at Lake Gregory. Lake Gregory offers a special fusion of natural beauty, historical significance, and local character, even though it’s not a perfect wilderness.
