Moon Plains

The Moon Plains, a 400-hectare plateau in Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka, is now a photographers’ and nature lovers’ paradise. The region, so called because of its lunar-like topography, consists of undulating meadows with bushes and dwarfed trees. The stunning panoramic views of the Namunukula mountain range and the lowlands below are the area’s most alluring feature. There are hiking trails, wildlife, and Jeep safaris for guests to enjoy and discover. Nuwara Eliya’s milder climate makes it a perfect destination for a cool getaway, particularly in the summer. The Moon Plains offer photographic opportunities as well, with the landscape being painted in a variety of hues by sunrise or dusk. Even though the Plains don’t have many amenities, people enjoy going on Jeep safaris and picnics there. For those who enjoy the outdoors, photography, and a cool respite from the bustle of Nuwara Eliya town, the Moon Plains is a fantastic place to visit.
