Pigeon Island
Pigeon Island is a protected area comprising two small islands and a coral reef that is situated off the coast of Nilaveli, Sri Lanka. It was founded in 2003 and is a well-liked vacation spot with colorful coral reefs, immaculate beaches, and a wide variety of aquatic life. The name of the island derives from the wild pigeons that used to live there. In the deeper seas, visitors may expect to see sharks, marine turtles, and colorful fish. Snorkelers and divers find refuge in the shallow coral reefs that encircle the island, providing a window into the undersea world. There are two beaches on the island, one bigger than the other, both with golden, silky sand and crystal-clear waters. Pigeon Island National Park offers unique underwater exploration and beach relaxation experiences, but prohibits removing coral, shells, wildlife, and climbing rocks due to ecological significance.
